Basilica of Sainte Anne
Wood Window Restoration
Historical Background
The Basilica of Sainte Anne de Detroit was founded July 26, 1701 by French colonists in New France, and the second oldest continuously operating Roman Catholic parish in the United States. Historically, the parish congregation has occupied eight different buildings since it was founded. The current church was listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places in 1976. The architectural style is Classical Revival and Late Gothic Revival, the architect was Albert E. French. The twin spires design is common in northern French Churches. The thirty-five foot altar is a purely gothic design with spires, pinnacles, turrets and flying buttresses. The church contains exquisite stained glass throughout and is the oldest in the city of Detroit.
BlackBerry's Role
- Provided an historical survey of the windows in the twin spires of the church.
- Documented all components for restoration.
- Fully restored existing windows as well as replicated custom millwork components to stabilize the windows.
Current Use
The Basilica of Sainte Anne is a thriving parish located on the Southwest side of Detroit. A large local hispanic population in this area of the city has made this their spiritual home and cultural hub for families and neighbors.
